Terms of Use
On this page
01 Acceptance of terms
By adding ThreatScope to a chat, messaging it, or using its dashboard, you agree to these Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the bot.
02 The service
ThreatScope is a free, independently-run Telegram bot that submits URLs and files you send it to VirusTotal for security analysis and reports the resulting verdict back to you. It is provided as-is, by an individual developer, not a company, with no guaranteed uptime or support SLA.
03 Acceptable use
You agree not to use ThreatScope to:
- Attempt to circumvent, exhaust, or abuse the shared VirusTotal API quota (e.g. scripted mass-submission, automated flooding)
- Submit content you don't have the right to submit, or content intended to harass, defraud, or harm others
- Attempt to probe, exploit, or gain unauthorized access to the bot's infrastructure, dashboard, or underlying systems
- Use the bot's verdicts as the sole basis for a legal, medical, financial, or safety-critical decision
Violating these terms may result in your account or chat being blocked from using the bot, at the operator's discretion, without notice.
04 Scan limits & shared quota
ThreatScope operates on VirusTotal's public API tier, which enforces a strict shared rate limit (a small number of requests per minute, and a daily cap) across every chat the bot serves — not per-user. This means:
- Scans can take longer during busy periods, since requests queue behind the shared limit
- A short per-chat cooldown applies between scan submissions to keep any single busy chat from starving quota for everyone else
- If the daily quota is exhausted, scans will fail until it resets — this is a third-party platform limit, not something we can override
05 No warranty on verdicts
A "clean" or "harmless" verdict is not a guarantee of safety. VirusTotal's analysis reflects what its 70+ engines detected at the time of the scan — new or evolving threats can go undetected. Always use independent judgment, especially for anything sensitive.
ThreatScope does not perform its own independent malware analysis — it relays VirusTotal's assessment. We make no representation or warranty, express or implied, about the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any verdict returned.
06 Limitation of liability
ThreatScope is provided free of charge, "as is," without warranty of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for any damages — direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential — arising from your use of the bot, including but not limited to reliance on a scan verdict, service downtime, or data loss.
07 Availability
The bot may be temporarily unavailable for maintenance, redeployment, or due to factors outside our control (Telegram outages, VirusTotal outages, hosting provider issues). We don't guarantee continuous, uninterrupted availability.
08 Suspension & blocking
We reserve the right to block any user or chat from using ThreatScope — silently, without prior notice — if we determine, at our discretion, that it's being used abusively or in violation of these terms. A blocked user or chat will not receive an error message, to avoid confirming to bad actors that the block is intentional.
09 Your data
How your data is collected, stored, and deleted is covered in full in the Privacy Policy. In short: you can permanently delete everything we hold about you at any time with /deletemydata.
10 Changes to the service or terms
Features may be added, changed, or removed at any time. If these terms change materially, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the bot after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
11 Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the operator resides, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, to the extent applicable.
